Copying files to an ExpressCard SSD card disables the Wireless Card
My Dell Latitude E4300 with 64-bit Vista Ultimate accepts ExpressCards. So I bought a Verbatim SSD ExpressCard 64 GB to use as a fast second harddrive.
Unfortunately the Wireless Card is disabled, when starting to copy (large) files onto the card, only a restart activates the Wireless card again. There are no drivers for the ExpressCard because the drivers are built into Vista.
The Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - hardware diagnostics - fails the "Interrupt" and "DMA and Loopback" tests. Before copying files onto the card, all the WLAN tests pass. The WLAN card is identified as a Dell Wireless 1510 Wireless-N WLAN Mini-Card.
Any ideas? A default WLAN driver? Dell...?

Hi Helms,
having gone though the same pains (added a 32gb Verbatim ExpressCard SSD to my 1510 Vostro under WinXP), I hope I can present you with a solution:
For me, all problems went away, once I changed the SATA mode from AHCI to ATA, no stuttering and no WLAN (even LAN) deactivation when using the SSD. However, I cannot say if this helps with Windows XP, as I have already upgraded to Vista in the process...
Cheers,
Bernhard

Sigh...
Never say that your system is running...today I have been experiencing network outages again, though much less frequently than with XP.
Sigh - so still looking for a solution.
