Dell Latitude D620 Not Connecting to Wireless

Question

I have a Dell Latitude D620 that I use for research when I am writing. The computer worked fine yesterday when I shut it down. Today, it is unable to connect to my wireless network, although the netbook I use to write on connects fine. I have shut down and restarted the Latitude several times, but it does not connect. I am running Windows XP on the system.

I attempted to repair the wireless as that has worked for me in the past. When I do, I get an error message that says the computer could not connect to "Clever-fish" wireless network. That is not even a network in my area, and I have never connected to anything named "clever-fish".

If I try to connect to my home wireless (which worked yesterday), it seems to go through fine, but does not connect. I right click on the wireless icon and it says "The following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address." I have spoken to the network provider and it is not a problem on their end (I figured since my netbook is working fine).

I have checked the device manager and the wireless card is working fine.

The thing that is throwing me is this "clever-fish" network. It does not exist anywhere...is it possible this is a virus? I have virus protection but we all know that is not foolproof.

Any suggestions?

Kwenbee, Can you post an ipconfig /all log and post it back here? Try downloading and running WinSock XP Fix then restart your computer. Can you connect? Rick

Well, I did get it to connect (it was my own fault...I was using a lower case letter in the password instead of upper case - but the computer never told me it was an incorrect password...just never connected). However, now I have a new problem...

I think I switched something off that needs to be on during that process and don't know what...

My Wireless Zero Configuration, which is set to Automatic, keeps stopping every time I either close the laptop or shut it down. I then have to go in and manually turn it on, then go back to the wireless networks and tell the system to allow Windows to configure my wireless network settings. As soon as I do all of that, it works fine.
