Do I need to reinstall driver for 3com etherlink 10/100 pci model 3c905cx-tx ???

Overtime I start my dimension 4100 (running XP pro) I have to click the repair button on my LAIN connection before I can connect to the internet. I have a westell DSL modem w/ earthlink. The Network is through a hard wired linksys BESFR81 router. The linksys people spent three days figuring out that I was not able to obtain DNS addresses automatically, and have had me assign them as a static property of my TCP-IP protocol. Since then, I have had to do this repair. It's annoying, but, hey, I'm on line. Linksys tells me that I need to reinstall my network card drivers to fix this, but 1. That doesn't sound quite right and 2. I'm not sure where to find the drivers for XP pro and 3. At least this works. Sort of. Please advise, and thanks. Olivia

Knowing you have XP Pro you can always do a system restore. Also you can delete your NIC and reinstall under Add Remove Hardware, your XP disk will have the needed drivers.

THANK YOU for posting this info. Yesterday I opened the tcp-ip properties on my LAN connection and changed the settings back to obtain dns server address automatically . Today it seems to be working without the repair routine. The great value of your info is that I now have the security of knowing I can delete the NIC and have a driver at hand if I need it. This NIC is swapped from an earlier dell, and so shipped with drivers for up operating systems to but not including windows XP. I was paniced that I might not be able to find the XP drivers, and couldn't recall their source. You've solved that for me. You're great! Olivia
