FINALLY! How to setup the TrueMobile 2300.

After continually loosing my internet connection when trying to setup my TM2300 using the wizard CD i decided to give Dell a stern call! After an hour i have arrived at this process. I was trying to connect a dsl modem to my laptop via the TM2300. During the setup it was a wired connection, after the setup i can now use my laptop to surf wirelessly!!

1. Check to see if the router gets an IP address when connected to the router. If so, open the router configuration page by typing http://my.router or http://192.168.2.1 in the browsers address bar.
2. Once in side the router configuration screen click on the device status screen. If there is a red cross next to the internet connection then connect the computer directly to the DSL modem and enter its configuration menu to see what its IP address is.
3. If you get a non-routable IP address like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x or 172.16.x.x, then that indicates the DSL modem acts as a DHCP server. In this case, you need to either make the modem act as a bridge by disabling the DHCP feature or make the TM2300 act as a bridge by enabling Access Point mode (thus disabling DHCP).
3.1 To make the TM2300 act as an Access Point, in the router page, click on BASIC SETTINGS > change from GATEWAY to ACCESS POINT > click next > click save and apply > click save and restart. It will take a few seconds and will either take you back to the main page or may display page cannot be displayed.
3.2 One the steps in 3.1 have been done connect the cable modem to one of the LAN ports on the TM2300 (one of the other LAN ports will be connecting the TM2300 to your computer). Do a release and renew of the IP addresses (see below for HOW TO. This will enable the computer to get an IP address for the DSL modem directly.
3.3 Now open up your browser and surf!!

HOW TO release and renew IP addresses. (based on Microsoft XP)
3a. Click START > click RUN > type CMD > click ok
3b. Type ipconfig /release (please note the space)
wait for the ip addresses to be released
3c. Type ipconfig /renew (please note the space)
wait for the ip addresses to be renewed,

4. If you get a routable from the ISP directly that indicates the DSL modem is acting as a bridge. Follow the normal procedure of putting in the username and password (PPPoE settings) in the router page.
4.1 In the router configuration page click basic settings > click internet connection settings > select connection type as DSP PPPoE > input your username i.e username@ISP.com and input your password > click next > click save and restart. It will take a few seconds and bring you back to the main page. Click device status and the red X to the internet should be gone. If not, reset the DSL modem by powering off for two minutes and powering back on.

I hope that this has been of use, if you have any queries please contact me. I would appreciate feedback if this has been useful.
