Inspiron 2200 Ethernet Port: cable is unplugged

Dear Tech Guys

i have an issue with my old laptop. It shows unplugged network cable message even it is actually plugged in. I had used this LAN Pot for over 4 Yrs, using Win XP Home.

Is there circuit pins broken inside ? can i repair it myself

any Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Many Thanks

The only time my Ethernet port stopped working was when it took a "hit" during a lightening storm which also took out a port on my Ethernet switch.

What is the other end of the ehternet cable plugged into?  Have you tried plugging into a different router.  The port on the laptop may have been fired with the lightning hit . . or the modem/router it was attached to
