Laptop detects but will not connect Wanadoo Orange wireless: SOLVED
It took me 3 days to figure this out and I hope it may help others if I share.
Problem: connecting a new Dell laptop to my livebox supplied by Orange, formerly Wanadoo.
Tech help:
Orange - on the phone for an hour to a woman who blamed the laptop.
Dell - on the phone for five minutes to someone who said it was a configuration problem.
OK - here is my solution (and it does not involve throwing both laptop and livebox into the nearest chemical toilet, though I thought about it in the middle of day 2).
It is a configuration problem and Orange are wrong. Be brave, go into your livebox configuration http://configuration.adsel/ . Default Passwords are admin. Click on Configuration, click on advanced, click on wireless and select WPA only. Confirm changes...
While the system resets, access the computers wireless network manager...on Intel Pro/Set, you hit profiles, then hit properties. You click the box on Network Infrastructure, then click the box on Personal.
Then MAKE SURE the security is set to WPA Personal (with TKIP).
If you have any other wi-fi connections , make them the same. Have your pass key number handy too, just in case it asks for it. Mine didnt.
It worked for me. I hope it works for you.

I should say that in order to access the Livebox to change settings, I used my existing computer's Wi-Fi connection. But if you are operating on a single laptop you can easily link up with an ethernet cable.
Also, I'd like to add that I registered as jee-s-us not because of some biblical power reference thing - it was more of an exasperated cry to the heavens when I finally made the connection work!

But i changed my settings by going to the default IP address of the router 192.168.1.1 and following your other instructions to change the encryption from WEP to WPA, and now my laptop is wireless again!
Thanks again

Forget the Dell network assistant...I rated it as a bit dumb as all it is doing is telling you if you are connected.
The yellow triangle and message does appear while the livebox reconfigures. But all should be well after a reboot...or it was for me!
Have you 2 computers (and so are able to access livebox settings separately) or are you working on an ethernet connection?

All I was going to suggest was to remember as well to update settings on your computer after updating the livebox...but glad the new software has done the trick.
