Limited Wifi Windows 10 _ Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

Hello folks,

My original OS was Windows 7, and I recently did a clean install of Windows 10. Afterwards, I haven’t been able to connect to my secure, home wifi. I had no problem connecting to my university’s unsecure, public wifi after the clean install. I know that my home modem and router are working ok since there are other devices in my house that don’t have a problem connecting to the internet. It seems like the problem is a setting for my network or on my laptop, but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

I have tried the following:

-rebooting my laptop

-unplugging my modem and router

-disabling & enabling network device

-uninstalling & reinstalling the device

-reinstalling drivers (twice)

-running the Windows troubleshooter

-resetting Windows 10

-flushing the DNS

-ipconfig renew

-netsh winsock reset

System specs:

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1470

OS: Windows 7 (formerly), Windows 10 (currently)

Network adapter: Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

I have included several screenshots for you better diagnose the problem. I appreciate any help I can get on this.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to help me. Any more suggestions?

Flashg21,

Try these tweaks....

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager, network adapters right click on Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Half Mini Card, left click properties, left click advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. If you have this, change the Antenna Diversity from Auto to Aux.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Two things have helped.

1. If you have an agn modem, go to the Device Manager for the wireless adaptor and Defeat the "n" function.

2. In the wireless properties, change the DNS server address to that of a third party server. I'm not with a computer that I have done this on currently, but search for third party DNS servers. The change is made by going to Network Settings, then click the network then Properties at the bottom left, thel double click on TCP/ipv4 and then set the addresses at the bottom in place of automatic.

hi,

This did not work for me.

1. I was able to uncheck the box for the allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

2. Antenna diversity did not exist for me

3. Power options was already set to maximum performance

Hi,

This didn't work for me either. Did anybody get this issue resolved? I've been struggling for a few weeks now

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but just in case this helps someone in the future:

I had exactly the same issue when I upgraded my Mum's Dell Studio 1558 and none of the above solutions helped.

In the end I uninstalled the Wireless card in Device Manager -> Driver tab (this removed the adapter completely), then clicked Action -> Scan for Hardware Changes which showed the wireless adapter again

I then connected to the BT FON open network as we have a BT Hub and it connected fine, so I went into Network Settings -> Manage Wi-Fi Settings, under Manage Known Networks at the bottom of the window, clicked on the network I was having trouble with and clicked "Forget"

Then tried to connect again by entering the SSID password and this time it was successful!

Man... finally! disabling the 'n' protocol from my router have worked. Thank you all for all the tips and effort. My best regards.

For those struggling to find the "Antennae Diversity" option, you need to uninstall the Microsoft driver that is installed by default and re-install the Dell one from the website. You will then get the "Antennae Diversity" option and I found this helped a lot.
