Missing Wireless Zero Configuration serivce

Looked around and didn't see any answer for this.  I'm trying to set up my Insp-8200 with the 1150 wireless card.  To make a long story short, the laptop is missing the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service.  Any one know how to add this service?  It's on every other Windows XP machine I can get my hands on, just not the laptop.  It seems I can't get the wirless network going with out it.

Thank you,

Carter.

Found it.  To make a long story short (again) I had to find the serivce in the Registry, add a "Start" line to the key, and reboot.  I am typing this wirelessly to prove it works.

Details upon request.

Carter.

Start - Settings - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services and starting it there is easier and safer for those who don't know about registry editing.

Right, it sure is.  However if the service is completely missing, as in not listed in "Services" at all, there is no way to resurect it from the Services control panel.  Thus Registry editing was necessary to add it to the list, then I could go to Services to "Start" it.

For some unknown reason this service is not intalled as part of any Windows Update and can only be found thru the Knowledge Base with Article # 815485

I am running an Inspiron 1150  and use a wireless router to connect to the internet. I run WInXP and all updates have been done. As of Friday, the system does connect to the router. Interestingly enough my other computer an Inspiron 8200 has the same problem at the same time - it could not see the router.

After much trouble shooting, I determined the Wireless Zero Configuration Service was off. I reconfigured it for both computers, but the problem persists for the 1150. No matter what I do, the service does not start on boot.

Is this a network card driver problem or some virus?
