Netgear WAPs WG102 vs. WG302 vs. WAG 302

Hello all,

Please help...unfortunately I've already fried my first 302 WAP after only 1month
of having it. I tried to upgrade the firmware wirelessly rather than
via ethernet (silly me) As a result, I'm in the process of purchasing a
replacement and want small business quality but do not want to OVERSPEND.
I'm using a total of 3 Dims and 1 Inspiron on the network. Question
is...is there a noticable diferrence between the WG 102 and WG 302, other
than the price? Also, as for the Dual Band WAG 302...exactly what does it
mean and is it worth the investment? Mega thanks in advance!!!

Invest in Dual Band AP only if you have Dual Band cards on the systems that will be associated wirelessly and have specific use for the "a" standard.

Dual Band means that the device is capable of transmitting signals at 2 frequencies.
2.4 GHz - the b and g standards (b has a speed of 11 Mbps while g has 54 Mbps)
5 GHz - the a standard (54 Mbps)

Most of the newer cards are b and g cards unless specifically mentioned that they are a compatible also.

I would suggest going in for only a "b\g" AP.

d.j.

Thanks for the info, however, with that being said is the WG 103 significantly better than the WG 302? Thanks!

Quoting from Netgear site:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101431.asp

The WG302 is NETGEAR’s most featured access point. In Summary, the WG302 has more extensive management features for higher end deployments that require these features.

Below is an overview of the differences:

  • WG302 has 2 detachable 5 dBi antennas, WG102 has 1 detachable 5 dBi antenna
  • WG302 has a one (1) Console Port (1) with standard RS-232C interface with DB-9 male connector
  • WG302 has secure SSH Telnet & Secure Socket Layer (SSL) remote management login
  • Wireless isolation enables peer-to-peer blocking so users may not access another user’s PC Adapter
  • Various other management features available in product chart – on Website
