Problems updating TrueMobile 1150 drivers to support WPA
Hi everyone,
I have a Latitude C610 that came with an Agere miniPCI network card (MPCI3A-20/R, DELL 019401/C) identified as a Dell TrueMobile 1150. I used the drivers and utilities from Dell's site but then removed the card because WEP can be cracked in 3 minutes and I switched my wireless network to WPA. I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless&wired router, and another Latitude C610 with an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG that work together flawlessly on WPA.
Searching the forums I found out that there are newer drivers from Agere that support WPA, but I couldn't get them to properly work on Windows 2000 Professional. From another forum thread I found out that Dell has released updated drivers for Windows XP and I thought they might work. Sure enough, the card drivers gets installed properly, in card's properties I can even select the channel, but the Client Manager doesn't start at all -- probably because it's supposed to run under Windows XP, not Windows 2000. The Client Manager's version is 3.30, same with Agere's Wireless Client Manager, so I installed Agere's client instead which runs under Windows 2000. But this one says the drivers are incompatible, the client is a newer version than the drivers. So I'm stuck again.
Is there any way to get the Dell's Windows XP Client Manager to function under Windows 2000 Professional? Could Dell release the same drivers for Windows 2000? Perhaps somehow force Agere's drivers to work with Dell's TrueMobile 1150 card in order to have WPA? A response from the Dell tech support guys would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
