TrueMobile 1184 (WX-6215D) CD d/l and 4700 compatibility?

A friend lend me his old Dell router but he's still looking for the CD that came packed with it. Is it alright if I ask if there is some sort of Utility/Installation .exe available for download. And if it's compatible with Dimension 4700?

Thanks for your time.

Brandon Heat,

Yes, there is Utility/Installation software, but you really do not want or need it.  Instead, use the router's web-based configuration utility.  Use IE and browse to http://192.168.2.1.  Here is the 1184's online user manual.  Follow the "Managing Your Router" link to learn about the web-based configuration utility.

I hook everything up (reseted the router); Cable modem > Router, Lan 1 > PC. But of course Windows is giving me a "limited to no connection" of some sort, and so I try and run http://my.router or http://192.168.2.1 but it gives me the usual "The page cannot be displayed."

What's up? I'm running WinXPHE. I tried following the documentation, but it seems it's for older IE. I'm also running ZA firewall (software). Thanks!

BrandonHeat,

The Limited or no Connectivity message indicates the PC is not receiving an IP address from the router.  First, check the link lights on both the router and the PC to make sure they are lit when the ethernet cable is plugged in.  If they are not, use a different ethernet cable.  Until the link lights are lit you won't get an IP address.  Make sure you are using a straight-through ethernet cable, NOT a crossover cable.

If the link lights are lit, on another PC download the winsockxpfix and run it on the D4700.  If the problem is not resolved, try downloading the lspfix and run it on the D4700.

If you are still having problems, see if the suggestions here help.

I tried those, but still nothing. But the thing is, when I remove the ethernet cable from the router's Internet and plug it directly to the PC, Windows immediately connects (without any reboot or anything). So I don't think it's my system itself. We might go there on Saturday, and I'm gonna try and find the CD. Maybe that would work.

I appreciate your input though. Thanks for your time.

It sounds like you are not resetting the network when you change the device that is connected to the modem.  The modem remembers you computer and you can connect, but when you connect the modem to the router, it still thinks it's connected to your computer, and thus the router cannot make the connection.  Whenever you change the device connected to the modem, you need turn off the modem, turn off the router and turn off the computer(s).  Wait a few minutes, then turn on the modem, turn on the device that is directly connected to the modem (eithter the router or a computer), then trun on the other computers.
