Unable to network with new notebook and Netgear WPN824.
I have a brand new Inspiron E1705 with Netgear WPN824. I have DLS Verizon for my Desktop and want to network with the notebook so both can use the DSL line. Have tried everything!! Pls help

Please, elaborate more than " Have tried everything!!" ? What is the brand and model of your desktop? Are both computers running Windows XP?

Dell Inspiron E1705 Notebook, Media
Netgear wirless router wpn824
I also have a dell Desktop Dimension 8300 running XP
My wireless connection is DSL, Verzion with a Westell Versa Link Modem. Ethernet yellow conn. goes from Westell to the Desktop.
My husband and I both want to use Verzion DSL at the same time. Dell Sales recommended the Netgear wireless router.
We have the blue netgear conn going from the Notebook to the Netgear router.
We have the Dell ac adapter hooked from the Notebook to the router. On the router, the power light in on and the internet lite is also on. We have a screen that says "choose a wireless network" Windows cannot configure this wireless conn. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless conn, use that software.
We inserted the Netgear CD, and to the best of our ability, tried to follow instructions, but never connected to the internet. We got the Netgear Smart Wizard configuration asst.
Setup Wizard says:"detection conn type on internet port, pls wait a moment"
I hope I have given you the info you need to help us. It is now Sat. and we have been trying since Tues.

It's enough info for now. Please, follow these instructions carefully?
1) Leave all ethernet cables connected to network components and power everything off, modem, router, computers...everything.
2) Wait 5 minutes, make sure an ethernet cable is going from the output port of the modem to the input(internet) port of the router. Then, power on the modem. Wait another 5 minutes to allow it to do it's POST checks.
3) Power on the router and wait 5 minutes for it to do it's POST checks. Make sure the 2 ethernet cables are inserted and secure in the computers properly.
4) Power on the desktop. After it times in, insert the Netgear Smart Wizard CD and follow the instructions.
Does it detect a IP address, now?
