Wake on Lan (WoL) support for Inspiron
Do any models of the Inspiron with the built-in network card support Wake on Lan? I have Inspiron models that go from current to several years old, and I would like to begin using WoL. Thanks.

After a correct configuration of BIOS an SO (Win XP SP1), it wakes up from stand-by if I ping it by another PC, but it don't if powered-off, with AC connected too...
It's your same problem?
If you want to wake up your Inspiron form stand-by you must explore the properties of your NIC:
Advanced->Wake Up Capabilities|Wake Up Frame Energy
Energy Saving -> Allow the NIC to exit the PC from stand-by
(sorry, my WinXP isn't an english version, therefore I'm merely translating...)
When I'll find a solution for waking up from a powered-off notebook, I'll give you...

Found!!!
From the notebook powered-off the wake-up on LAN is triggered by a magic packet, not pinging!!!
I found a very nice (and free) program that allows to send a magic packet to a MAC address (you can find the MAC address of your NIC with netstat /r on Win XP or winipcfg on W98):
