Windows XP SP2 - TrueMobile Bluetooth - Is it supported ?

With Microsoft's release of Windows XP service Pack 2, this can have an impact on the support and usability of Bluetooth (SP2 supports bluetooth, but has limited drivers), eg Belkin Bluetooth is not supported)

Has DELL tested this ? Indeed what are the steps needed to use XP SP2 ?

Do you have to uninstall the current Bluetooth ? (I ask as this uses a proprietry interface that is (from experience of SP2 RC's on other PC's)  incompatible with the "new" way Microsoft handle Bluetooth

Indeed has anyone with an Inspiron laptop and a TrueMobile Bluetooth adapter tried this ?

SP2 automatically installed TM 300 bluetooth(known as Dell Truemobile module) you don't need to install dell driver anymore. It also can communicate with my  Motorola V600 and SE T610.

That is good news, though I do dislike the MS way of handling Bluetooth.

I wonder if Dell have evaluated it with the standard Inspirons and will post pointers (I wont hold my breath)

I might have to apply the "Network" install version (which is on another PC I have, and works with the MS bluetooth adapter, but not my Belkin on).

Unfortunately SP2 has indeed messed up my bluetooth truemobile 300 on my I8600.  It no longer functions after installing SP2, and worked perfectly before.  I will try to re-install the drivers and post my results.

Thanks

After I have installed SP2 I did:
1. uninstalled the BTW driver.
2. Go to device manager->bluetooth->update driver.
3. It will Installed a 2 new driver
4. After that go to control panel->bluetooth->options->there is an option to torn on the bluetooth icon on the notification area.
5. After that you will see a different Bluetooth "B" icon on the taskbar.

If you do a clean install winxp sp1 and then install sp2 you dont need to install Dell bluetooth driver, just go to control panel->bluetooth->options.

Hope this help

Users:

I want to post a link to the Microsoft site explaining what enhancements were added into Service Pack 2.

I have installed bluetooth (and Dell Wireless as follows)

1) Install XP SP2, and reboot etc.

2) Delete DELL Wireless software via add/remove programmes, then reboot

3) Delete Wireless device, then scan for new devices

4) Delete DELL Bluetooth Software via add/remove programmes, then reboot

5) Delete Bluetooth device, then scan for new devices

By deleting the devices after the install, I made sure XP did not keep hold of the old drivers, I had to do this as Wireless would not discover my AP until I deleted the device then reinstalled it

My Bluetooth Mouse (MS) kept disconnecting until I allowed "Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer"

All appears OK, though the Bluetooth system is a bit poor compared to the "normal" software
