Wireless network is connected but there is no internet
My family has two desktop computers, both running Windows XP. The wired one is connected to a linksys
WRT54G v5 router and the dsl modem. The wireless desktop uses a linksys PCI adapter (not sure what model number it is). The wired one works fine, but the wireless one says that it is connected to the internet but the internet does not work. If am lucky my homepage will load but nothing else will. There is just a blank page (not even the message: internet explorer cannot display the webpage). I have tried many different things such as clicking repair, changing configurations, using a different internet browser, and resting the router. I later got so fed up that I bought a new router and a USB wireless adapter. THE SAME THING. Ideas anyone?
Since the new router and adapter are not working, I switched back to old ones (The WRT54G and PCI).

Try restoring the computer to a date when it was connected to internet with "system restore". As you have tried a different router seems to be a conflict on your computer. It could be a software you recently installed or security settings on your computer.
Steps to perform system restore
Click on Start > Click All Programs > Click on Accessories > Click System Tools > Click System restore
System restore window will pop up, make sure that the option "Restore computer to earlier date is selected".
On next page you will get a calender with dates in bold, you will notice that if you click on a date in bold it will show you the changes you made on that particular date with time, or it will say system scheduled check point.
Select the date when the computer worked fine and proceed further with system restore.

Try these steps,
Reinstall the wireless card driver, uninstall the security software check if after removing the security software you can go online or not.
I am just wondering are you able to connect to internet using the hardwired connection?
If nothing works then you will have to reinstall the operating system as the possible cause would be that the winsock layer on your operating system has gone bad.
I will keep my fingers crossed try reinstalling the wireless card driver and uninstalling the security software.

I reinstalled the driver and uninstalled the security software and there is still the same problem. I know that I have the latest firmware and updated driver. The hardwired connection is fine. Any other ideas before reinstalling the operating system?

Another piece of info I forgot to mention is that whenever a friend comes over with a laptop and logs into my wireless connection, their internet is fine. Another thing that I just noticed is that when my friend's laptop is connected, it has received over 10,000 packets. But on my computer, it has received around 300 packets and I remember that number used to be a lot higher when my internet used to work and now, when the internet is not working, it is really low. Do you understand what I am talking about?
