XPS can not see printer connected to wireless router/print server

Question

Hi,

I just got my XPS M1330 a week ago. It a good machine which works fine except attaching to a network printer. I used Compex NetPassage N27 wireless rounter/printserver (4 ethernet port, 4 usb ports) as the core of my home network. A HP Deskjet 970Cxi is connected to the usb port of this rounter and served as a network printer for all PC access to this network. We have several notebook including Dell, HP, Benq with both XP Pro, Vista Ultimated 32. All are working fine except my new XPS M1330 with Vista Home Premium with McAfee.

I have installed many time this printer on notebooks attached to this network. But this time, it seems XPS can not see my printer. When I use network printer installation, it can not find printer automatically. When I enter manually IP Address - http:192.168.2.1:631/prn/usb0, vista said it can not see the printer as well. I proceed and installed the printer driver. But the printer does not seem working when print job created.

I note that my XPS seems not sending the print job out.

I have turn off both McAfee and Window firewall but still has no luck.

Can any one give me suggestion?

This may or may not work but has helped many get connected.

Printer Sharing on XP/Vista Network

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name.

Type in the \\computername\printername

Thanks for your advice. Could you give me detail how to find computername and printername asthe printer is connected to a rounter not a pc. I try also by adding Local Printer and Creat a New Port/Standard TCP/IP .... but no luck as well.

Sorry, I missed that detail.

What type of security are you using?

Most wireless devices work best with WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security

Also most wireless devices work best on channels 1, 6 or 11.

Some wireless cards have problems communicating with other devices on other channels. Using WPA security will also help.

I also suspect the wireless compatibility too and today I have connected notebook to the router via ethernet port on it.

Result is same. I also have no problem in internet access from this notebook.

So, we can conclude that the connection from notebook to rounter is seem OK both wire and wireless. But something stop it to see the printer behind this rounter.

What type of security are you using?   What channel is the wireless router using?
