'Acquiring Network Address' message does not go away

Question

I have an Inspiron 600m with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. when I try to connect to my home LAN, I am bale to connect, but the computer cannot acquire a network (IP) address. Said message continues to be displayed and will not change.   Also, when I click on 'Repair' for my wireless connection under the Network Connections window, the repair cycle gets stuck at 'Renewing your IP address.   Upon looking at the details of my connection, the IP address displayed is 0.0.0.0 and says that it is an 'invalid network address.'

The Intel 2200bg and 2915abg have problems. But either should do better than that.

Are you using the latest drivers?

If you are, I'd try re-installing the drivers.

I tried reinstalling the drivers but the same problem still exists.   Also, my cable LAN is exhibiting the same problem (Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller).

I did try simply running the program, but no changes happened. I did look into the program and it has instructions for having the program work that involve messing around with the registry editor, which I am not comfortable doing.     Also, is there a bug in Windows XP that makes my IP address be 0.0.0.0 that would be a contributing factor to this issue?

Put IP manuelly in the TCP/IP, exemple : IP = 192.168.1.100 Subnetting = 255.255.255.0 and other PCs exemples PC1 ============ IP = 192.168.1.101 Subnetting = 255.255.255.0

Using a manual IP address will hot help solve the problem. Set if back to "Obtain an IP address automatically" on both the wireless and wired connection. Try manually resetting the winsock stack using the procedure on the following web page:

I put in the Ip addresses manually and now they are recognized (as opposed to 0.0.0.0), however Internet Explorer still does not display web pages. The icon for the connection on the Network Connections window says 'Connected' as does the bubble that pops up from the icon in the taskbar, however IE always displays the 'Cannot Find Server' page.

Once again, no dice. When the TCP/IP is set to automatically get an IP address, it still won't get anything besides 0.0.0.0, and when an address is manually entered it connects but still displays no webpages.     Theoretically, could the problem be that the router being used is limiting the number of connections that it will allow, hence blocking my attempts to connect?

Yes, this could be causing the problem - but only the person that set up the router would know if it is set to limit the number of connections.  Have you checked? Steve

I suggest this solutions when u put manually IP (static ip),  u must indicate DNS, and IP the router in the case 'gateway' in the intenet explorer goto tools>Connections>Parametres Network>active this option : detect automatically parametre the connection   if problem in the server DHCP, this solutions solve it
