setting up printing with usb print server router combined

I need help bad many hours invested and I am loosing my hair fast

I have a desktop dimension 4600 running xp and a inspiron E1505 with Vista

This is what I have done so far

Went from desktop 10/100 ethernet card to wireless router with cat 5 cable
Went from router to DSL modem with Cat 5 cable
Connected printer to USB printer port on router/server

I can access internet and print after setting up printer location IP address everything good

Now I move onto laptop

It recognizes router and connects to the internet

I cannot get it see the printer.  I have read about shared printing but what I want to do is access the printer without going through desk top.  Since printer is connected to a wireless router with usb print server should I not be able to print to it directly from laptop?

I moved right along setting up desk top not being able to on lap top is hurting me any help is appreciated.  Do I need to change settings on desk top?  With desk top off I can still access internet with laptop and assume I should see printer also.

Which make and model printer server do you have.   Since I have never used one of these, I'm not sure I can solve the problem right off the bat, but I probably could look up the printer server's user guide on the internet and read it for you.
