stay connected (wifi) when standby?

Question

I have searched the forum but didn't find a clue. The problem is my wireless connection is disconnected when the system comes to standby (though it reconnects once out of standby). What I want is to let the system stay connected when standing by.

the laptop is D410 with Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN mini-PCI card;
the system is WinXP Home

I noticed that my wifes computer does the same thing. I had installed a Linksys 8.11g wireless PCI card, connecting to an Actiontec router. In poking around the Router configuration software yesterday, I noticed that there was a setting to break the connection if the PC was idle for a certain period of time. Could your wireless router have a similar configuration?

I didn't mess with it as the system seems to be working fine as it is set up.

as far as I know there is no way to maintain a wireless connection in standby.  if you were able to, the amount of other components that would need to be turned on would probably make the power savings almost worthless.   why are you putting the system into standby and why do you want the wireless activity to continue?

whats the point of having it stay connected while in standby... its pointless you cannot get files etc off a pc in standby

Maybe he just wants his system to start up faster when he brings it out of standby. It only takes 5 seconds for it to log back on, but you still need to sit there and wait.
