still have Interoperability issue Inspiron 6000/Verizon Westell after "fix"

I'm having problems with wireless internet  - I found on the Dell site that there is a known compatibility problem between Inspiron 6000 and the modem Verizon sent me (Westell Versalinkl DSL modem/router model A90-327W15-06). So, I checked the software version and it is a version that is later than the fix offered by Dell.  I'm still getting "Interoperability issue between a Verizon Westell 327W modem/router and Dell Wireless cards" message and slow connectivity in spite of having done the fix!

Verizon says it is a problem with Dell; the Dell techs haven't been of help either. I had a different modem before (Verizon approved Actiontec wireless) and had problems with extremely slow connectivity.  Verizon won't "support" that modem 'cos I didn't buy it from them and it isn't their preferred model.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to solve this problem? Thanks

Hi,

Does the connection speed remain same with a wired connection? Do you have other computers that connect wireless to the westel box? To verify if the firmware fix was completely done, Open the Westel Configuration Page using its IP address (Use a wired connection for this).

Follow the instructions below,

Click Save. The Save As window appears. Click the Desktop icon located in the left column, and then click Save. The file is saved to the Desktop. Right-click the file, and then click Run.
The program automatically updates the modem/router's firmware.

NOTE:  If updating the modem's firmware with a system that has Microsoft Vista installed, right-click the file and choose Run As Administrator

Seems that you have a newer Westell 327W Router version... the latest "D90-327W15-06" firmware version from Verizon's website is here ("click here" for the D90-327W15-06 firmware download). You might want to update your firmware as a last resort... since the firmware version & release date is unknown.

I found the link from this thread ("click here")... as well as a link to this thread ("How to use my Linksys wireless router with my 327w"... also in that forum "Westell Equipment Forum FAQ").

There's more Westell 327w threads "here" and "here"

(Edit)
From Verizon's Troubleshooting Guide on Slow Internet connection ("click here" select & click this link again):
Run DSL Speed Optimizer
Are you tapping into the full power of your Verizon High Speed Internet connection? Use the DSL Speed Optimizer tool to help you determine if key settings (TCP/IP and MTU) are tuned for optimal performance. (seems to be the same as the tweaks on "this page" and "this page")

Turn your modem off and then back on. Most Internet connectivity problems can be solved by turning the modem off and then back on again. Turn your modem off, wait 15 seconds, and then turn it back on. After waiting 45 seconds to allow the modem to synchronize with the server, try reconnecting to the Internet. (* Note: If your modem doesn't have an on/off switch, unplug the modem instead of turning it off.)

Make sure DSL filters are installed. DSL filters must be installed on every telephone device that shares the telephone line with your Verizon High Speed Internet. If DSL filters are missing, you may experience reduced DSL speeds as well as static or hissing on the telephone line.

Aloha,
Rod
