Dell PowerConnect 2848 uplink and management
Hi,
We use 4 Dell PowerConnect 2848 switches for iDRAC traffic. This works perfectly.
We use port 1 to 42 to connect to the servers, and 43 for the uplink. These ports are all in VLAN1021.

However with this setup we do not have telnet on the switch. So I've setup VLAN1 to have an IP address and set port 44, 46 and 47 in VLAN1 untagged. (I'm aware that you can't set the management IP address in another VLAN except VLAN1, found that out the hard way).
VLAN1 is setup as below: http://puu.sh/rc5MS/d3f41a5204.png
I am unable to edit VLAN1 for any port because of some odd reason. I can click whatever I want, but it doesn't change anything. But the real problem is:
When I get the cable for management in the switch, I am unable to reach the switch, and only iDRAC traffic works. When I remove the uplink for iDRAC traffic, I'm able to access the switch again via the managemnt IP address.
Could someone help me out with how I need to setup the VLAN's?
We use this for all of our networks, which works fine with Dell 5800 series and HP ProCurve, but only these series give us a lot of trouble with this..

Hi Daniel. Thank you for your reply. The only port that is being used is port 46, which is used for the management network traffic.
But I have 2 upstream connections to the switch, VLAN1021, our IPMI traffic, and for VLAN 1, the management network traffic.

Well I actually haven't check the spanning tree settings. I could see if I can disabled that, and see if it helps.
Port 46 is configured as only untagged VLAN1, which is used to connect to the Dell 2848 switch, with telnet.

Unfortunately I do not have a topology of our network. But basically:
Port 1 to 43 are being used for customers, VLAN1021, all ports untagged on the switch.
Port 44 is the uplink from our core core router, VLAN1021 untagged on the switch.
Port 46 is used for our managed network, which is directly connected to our managed network switch, which is directly connected to all our switches for managed network, VLAN1 on the switch, VLAN100 on our network.
