Help Upgrading PowerConnect 6224
Please help, advice required on firmware update
I've been updating our powerconnect switches to the latest firmware, however one switch is proving to be problematic.
We have a 6224 currently on f/w 2.2.0.3, which I am trying to update. I have followed the instructions in the PDF to update to 3.3.15.1 (I have also tried 3.3.2.3), however it constantly reboots.
I copy over the image (copy tftp) powercycle and update the bootcode with no issues. However when the new image loads and the cli prompt appears it just reboots. I have factory reset to clear the config files but the same issue occurs (it also reboots during the wizard). For info, I have also performed the same update procedure using the same image on our 6224F with no issues.
As I don't have an alternative switch to put in place at the moment, and this is one of our main switches, it is difficult to tackle during office hours. Luckily for now I can reload the switch to the original 2.2.0.3 image until I find a solution, and it works with no issues.
Please advise if anyone has also had similar issues or has any suggestions on a way forward.
I am reluctant to perform a format, as I am unsure that in doing so I would lose the working 2.2.0.3 image. Can anyone advise if the images, if any, would be cleared?
Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for the response.
Yes I disabled the persistent logging and shutdown all interfaces, I followed the pdf as instructed.
I am unsure as to why the XMODEM transfer would work rather than the tftp - the same image /procedure was used to update our 6224F with no issues. The bootcode updated and the image boots, but after the system is up and the cli prompt appears, a few seconds later the switch resets. I have also cleared the config files (factory reset), but the same issue occurs.
At the moment, we do not have the availability to have a long downtime - this switch is used on some of our core servers. If XMODEM does something different then I can try and arrange it.
The logical next step is to format the filesystem, but would I loose either of the images ??
(image1 is v2 working, image2 is v3 not working). If I format and loose the v2 image, then I potentially may not be able to recover as v3 reboots.
Thanks

Hi, Thanks for your response and the download link.
I uploaded the firmware to image1, however that made no difference - it still constantly rebooted.
So in order to avoid downtime I managed to swap out the switch temporarily so that I can format the filesystem and xmodem transfer.
I have formatted the filesystem which kept the correct images and also the configuration files. So far it hasn't reboot but I will leave it running for couple of days before I put it back in place.
Again thanks for your assistance, I will keep you posted
