M6220 - the current switch does not support four embedded NICS
Hi,
I have a new blade system consisting off a M1000e, 2 x M6220, 2 x Force 10 switches and 7 x Poweredge M520’s with ON-BOARD BROADCOM 5720 2X DUAL PORT 1GBE NICs.
When I boot the blade servers, I get the message “The current switch does not support four embedded NICS. The BIOS is disabling embedded NIC3 and embedded NIC4 If desired, please replace with a quad port capable switch to get full functionality of the network daughter card.” and only two network cards are available in Windows. The iDRAC reports 4 ports for embedded NIC 1.
The firmware for the switches and network card are all up-to-date. I have also stacked the two M6220 switches.
Is it not possible to use all 4 ports on M6220 switches?
Many Thanks

I think it is a matter of not having the correct amount of I/O paths thru the mezzanine. It looks like the answer would be the M6348 switch. Here is a good document discussing the I/O paths and the port distribution. Page 25 states the M6348 is optimized for use with Quad port GbE mezz cards.

I would suggest reaching out to a Technical Sales Representative in order to confirm what you are needing to purchase.
