PowerConnect 5324 not booting
Morning all... spent most of the weekend trying to fix this, gave up last night, remembered the forums! Hope you can help!
Got a PowerConnect 5324 in house, and up till a couple months ago, it was running grand. due to an office remodel, and some other changes, i disconnected everything a few months back, including the 5324.
Saturday i decided to start building the network again, and the first thing to be installed was the 5324... but it wont do anything! Plugged in, fans kick in (Man... I forgot how loud this thing is!) and the pwr and fan lights come on... and 2 other lights light up... number 13 and 19... they could be red, or orange (i am color blind) but they are the lights on the right hand side (when looking straight at the router) of the socket. I have plugged in a terminal cable, rebooted the switch, but get nothing on screen... I have held down the reset button for 5, 10 and 30 seconds to see if that would make any difference, but nothing... Plugging in cables to the switch does not see anything (2 seperate machines do not detect a connection) and no lights light up... have also tried plugging cables from the 13 and 19 ports to see what that would do, but again nothing...
Any ideas?
Thanks.

You may want to call into the support que, as being that you are getting power but you are not getting any video when you do a serial connection, it sounds like you may be having a CPU issue on the switch. From what you have said it sounds like the switch is refusing to boot into the config file. If the unit is still under warranty then the support group will be able to assist in getting this resolved for you.

I don't know what all hardware you have available to you, but do you have another switch that you can put in the place of this 5324? That was when the new switch is in place if the issue continues then we know it is something else.

I currently dont have access to another switch, but i am pretty sure its the switch and not other hardware... none of my machines see the switch when connected (macbook pro, workstation with 3 different NICs, Thecus NAS, Airport Extreme, Airport Express).

From the issue you are having, with not being able to even connect via the serial cable it sounds like the CPU or the main board on the switch went out. Being that switch is no longer under warranty, your best bet would be to look into getting a new switch. Below is a link to a comparable switch that has the same amount of ports as your old switch.

Hope this helps.
