The switch operates normally besides this. I'm not able to access the web GUI. To be honest im not sure that the switch was ever configured when it was first bought. It was a switched i inhereted when i started. I highly doubt the firmware has been updated in the last 2 or 3 years so that was going to be my next step (to update the firmware).
When i restart the switch while having the console connected the swithces boot process is not visible just the blinking cursor.
I did try Putty and with that software i cant even get a successful connection.
When i press enter multiple times after the connection nothing happens. Still just the same blinking cursor. i've also double checked the terminal ID which is defaulted to VT100 in SecureCRT.
Unforunately i dont have another switch with a console port on it on hand, but ill see if i can borrow one or get my hands on another switch.
Should i try the reset again? How long should i be holding the reset button down?
