Hello,

Just wanted to confirm that your TFTP server configurations is correct as it looks like it is not able to find the file to do the upgrade. What you need to confirm is that all files that need to be transferred to the switch must reside in the TFTP root directory, otherwise they will not be seen by the remote TFTP client on the switch. This is also the location where files transferred to the TFTP Server will be uploaded to.

You can check that by launching TFTP server File Configure.

In the TFTP Server Configuration dialog box, choose the directory that the TFTP Server will use as its root directory. Next, click on the Security tab.

On the Security tab, click on the Transmit and Receive files radio button to allow uploading and downloading from the switch. Then click OK when finished

Once that is verified I would try to run the update again and see if it states that it gives the same error.

Let us know how it goes

Hello,

I don't think that is the issue. I only have 4 files in my TFTP folder. Two are the backups of the startup-config and running-config I pushed from the switch to confirm write permissions. Two are the boot image and firmware image. I have been able to copy the boot image over, only failing on the firmware image.

Since I was not sure if the newer boot image would work with the old firmware, I downloaded the boot image from Dell this morning that matched my running boot image and that also worked fine. I tried to copy the old firmware file also but it failed with the same error.

Logic tells me that TFTP is working

Boot file copying is working

Firmware copying is not.

I don't know enough about the file structure, but it appears that the flash://image location is not accesable or corrupt.

My next step will be to try to upload the file using xmodem. But that brings up the issue of boot file and firmware version compatability. Can I run old firmare on latest boot image?

Thanks,

Roger

Roger,

Yes you can run the latest the switch on the latest boot image using old firmware.  When the switch reboots it will try to boot from the new boot image if it fails it will use the old image that it still has saved on the switch in the secondary location to boot the switch.  Let us know if you can’t still get the firmware to load using Xmodem.

Hello,

Turns out that that is not the case. When I loaded the latest boot image and rebooted the switch I got stuck in an endless boot loop. Error is "lzma compressed not supported by this version" or something like that. Currently using xmodem to copy the latest version of the firmware into the switch to see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks,

Roger
