Dell Dimension 2400 Drivers
HI,
I have just been given one of these without its hard drive (giver didn't want me snooping and isn't savvy enough to erase it). I have installed a drive and installed Windows XP but I now need the drivers for the video, sound, etc. (which I presume were on the recovery partition of the original drive). I entered the service key and up came a list but none of the links work. The last postings were circa 2007 so does this mean this have now been withdrawn/deleted - if so why are they still showing as available?

The drivers are available for download. The required installation sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Intel Chipset Drivers (3) Install Device Drivers such as sound, video, etc.
HERE is the Dell downloads for the 2400 and XP. The 2400 was discontinued many years ago so there will not be any "new" drivers available.
I don't think Dell was using the Recovery Partition method when the 2400's were sold. There was a set of Discs shipped with the PC that included the Operating System, Drivers and Utilities and drivers for any optional hardware.
Do not skip the chipset drivers, as they must be installed before installing sound drivers and also the chipset drivers include drivers for some devices cush as SM Bus controller. One of the prime things the chipset drivers do is define the devices on or attached to the motherboard.
