Fax on Dimension 8400 Desktop
I recently moved from Northwest Indiana to Florida and moved in with my aunt. We have been unable to secure a dsl connection as yet so we are working with dial-up. It seems that when my computer is on or I am working on my puter, when the phone rings my computer automatically goes into fax mode. We are unable to answer the phone. All we get is the fax tone. How do I get rid of this other than getting dsl (which we are not able to get at the moment?)
Please help!!
Thanks Diane

If you are online, then when you dialup, you need to tell the computer to dial *70, then the phone number of your ISP. This will disable call waiting so they will get a busy signal.
Also go to control panel, Internet Options, connections and make sure the box is checkes, never dial a connection.
Remember when you go to DSL, your setup will look like
wall > isp modem/router > wireless router(if any) > wired/wireless
All devices using the phone line will need a DSL Filter, phones, answering machine, faxes, etc., everything except the DSL Modem/router itself. You may share a DSL Filter.
wall > DSL Filetr > Splitter > multiple devices

What program do you use to FAX with?
