Outsourcing Customer Service and Technical Support
I just bought a Dell Studio 15Z laptop Yesterday. My wireless connection failed while in the middle of an e-mail. Had to Restart computer. Today, again after working on the computer for a couple of hours, lost internet connection again. I could see my wireless router, but was unable to connect. Called Tech Support. After going thru 7-8 promps which took about 8 minutes, i get a guy from India who gets all my information and transfers the computer over to my name and not Best Buy. He then said as i'm a new customer i get expedited service, please hold to be transferred.. I've already been on hold for 30 min. to this point when i finally get another Live body. They say it's a software issue and for me to do a System Reboot(remember it's only 2 day's old). After about 5 min. of Dead silence my computer reboots. Whoa, it says the reboot and restore was unsucessfull. He had me try it again. OOPS. He said our conversation is getting broken up, could he call me back?!? I could hear him just fine. So now my timer on my phone was at 45 min. He did call me back within about 3-4 min from an 800(which i tried to call him back on and it was an invalid number) so we tried to reboot and restore for a 2nd time. Still same error message. Had me press F2 for the wireless, still no luck. Wanted me to restart my computer, did it and still nothing. Then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, we get disconnected. Well i thought he would call me back since he had just called me back 10 min. before we were disconnected. NOTHING.
I called their Technical support AGAIN, talk with a woman who has a Very Strong accent. I have a hard time communicating with her. I end up having to give her all my information AGAIN and took twice as long as we had to spell out every word with letters and examples(D-dell, E-echo, L-lima, L-lima; ect. it took forever).
Then she said that he tried to call me back, which he didn't as i waited for his call. HE noted that he asked me if i wanted a service contract to fix my NEW DELL COMPUTER and i refused. We never had that conversation and Hell yes i would have refused that on a new computer. She then wanted to take control of my computer and look at it from her end. This took 3 min. as i could not understand what she wanted me to type into the address bar. Again had to spell out every word. Now it's been over an hour and half and NOTHING. I got soo frustrated when we got DISCONNECTED again. No call back, nothing.
I'm done with Dell. Based on what i've been reading most Americans are also. Customer service should be no. 1 priority behind making a quality product. Dell fails on both. I'm taking my computer back to get the Sony. Hell at least with my hold HP got almost 3 years, with Dell got 2 days.
Way to go. Keep building computers out of the country and outsourcing Customer Service and Tech Support. You'll be out of business within 5 years.
Happy 2011 Everyone

The user community here has many knowledgeable users that may be able to help (this is a users helping users forum).
There is the Laptop hardware section HERE the networking and wireless section HERE and the Software section HERE all available for you to post problems and for users to help.
The only comment I have about the India support is that Dell is not the only one that outsources customer support and not the only one that uses a 3rd party company to service equipment. I don't agree with it but that is the way most of the companies have gone, computer companies, banks, telephone companies, cable companies, and even some State and Local governments!
