Purchasing Alienware in Canada - Need assistance.

Hello, in terms of what is sold where, Canada may impose restrictions as to what Dell can and cannot sell.  Dell may have also done some market research and found that their customer base does not want many customizable options.  I know Dell has been slowly moving away from customizing computers as it makes selling and shipping computers a lot less difficult.  As for the dollar value, the value of one form of currency against another changes daily and you have to add any taxes and fees for importing goods from one place to another. 

I would understand your point about Dell trying to ship their laptops faster but I have been told that it will take 15 days for me to receive the m14x lol.

Lol, I did pull that one out my rear, however I will say they did have an article about it some years back on why they are limiting options and stuff.  Laptops are a different flavor all together regardless and generally limits your options since higher end laptops have to be tested in each config and the less configs you have, the less time it takes to test them all.

Why would Canada impose restrictions to ban the sale of nameplates.......? What customers don't want customizable options...isn't that one of the things Alienware is known for? Are you saying Dell is slowly moving Alienware towards their standard laptops?

To be honest, I dont live in Canada so I dont know why that government would do one thing or the other, and it was really just an example.  Outside of it all it would be easy to have customizable name plates for computers in the US and Canada since they are basically the same machine with the same software and hardware, but for whatever reason Dell is unable or unwilling to do so.  As for Customizable options, when I first started shopping with Dell in 2005, ALL of their computer lines had many upgrade options in terms of processors, memory, graphics cards, sound cards, and so forth.  Now if you want to upgrade, you have to go top of the line XPS 8300 or Alienware and maybe an inspiron line or two if they are having a special deal, and even those have some limits.  Dell decided it would be better to limit what you can upgrade on their computers so they can get them out faster, so generally you have memory and some graphics options and maybe you can update the processor on some of the lines, but they give you a starting point that locks in what you will get.  In terms of Alienware, they only sell 2 lines now in desktops, the Aurora and the X51.  The X51 is not really upgradeable from Dell at all and you have to select what option you want from their preset list. 

True but think of it this way.. Alienware used to be its own company, then Dell bought them out and brought them into the fold, using alienware to replace their high end XPS lineup.  At that time, they used to have their own speical support number and support staff and it was all premium, now depending on who you ask, its not much the case anymore.  Now i've never owned an alienware (all though i'm thinking about the new X series), but generally when a small business is taken over by a large business, things change.  Dell applied its business model to alienware after a time and things are the way they are now. 

Isn't that the whole point in buying an Alienware though, the service and time they put into it.
