dell dj ditty mp3 player install issues

i lost the installation cd for my dell dj ditty. when i plug it in to a usb port it says unrecognized and the device may have malfunctioned or something to that nature. all my songs are on the device and i can plug it in to charge and listen to the music with headphones but i cant open the files to mangae music. even if i open windows media to sync the device it says there is no device connected. i'm not sure what is wrong. i've checked so many different places and no suggestions that work. is there anyway to get an installation cd or open the files to manage the music.  thank you for any help you can provide, customer service/tech support was no help as they are in India. she thought a driver and an install software cd were one in the same and they are not. i went to the dell website to drivers and downloads but that didnt work. it seems that there is nothing installed on my computer to tell the ditty how to work. sorry this is so long but i wnated to give as much detail as possible to maybe help narrow down the problems. i will check back as my email updates with responses...thanks again.
