500w PSU Upgrade for Optiplex 7060 SFF
I have an optiplex 7060 SFF that I want to install a decent low profile PCIe x16 graphics card in but cannot with the factory installed PSU.
I am wanting to know if Dell has or had a 500w upgrade option available for this model and if so what part number is it or if their is a third party PSU with the 6 pin connector or a supported 24 to 6 pin adaptor available.
It is being used for a HTPC with transcoding and have already spent money on upgrading memory to 32GB AND added A 1TB m.2 drive so ideally don't want to buy a new system.
I live in Australia so am looking for parts I can get in AU to avoid import duties.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Seems like a case swap maybe a better option as it will allow a full height gpu and better psu.
there’s the rub. After optiplex 7020/9020, Dell optiplex motherboard has dropped microATX form factor. 7060 motherboard, along with 7050, 7040, 7070, 7080/90 use odd proprietary form factor that does not fit any non-Dell case. Gamer nexus S Burke has heavily criticized Dell for not caring for environment and adding future land fill with useless Dell parts. Dell wants you to buy new model than upgrading your optiplex.

eBay Austria sells tfx 500w psu. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265101620100?hash=item3db949b384:g:9hEAAOSw9a9gXUpw
But, you may not need a 500w psu in the SFF.
Which video card do you plan to use that requires 500w psu upgrade in 7060SFF?
Given it is a SFF case it would be nearly impossible to find a low profile and also powerful video card that fits the case. Users had tried some entry level and low profile gpu upgrade in 7060 or 7070SFF such as low profile gtx 1650. This card does not need 500w psu. See this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LVZJ4zc1oRU
note double slot width card can only be installed in pciex4 slot (black). single slot card can be installed in pciex16 slot (blue). The video explains this well.
if you consider gtx 1650, psu calculator estimates a 300w psu suffices. Dell makes 300w or 360w psu for XE3 that is compatible with 7060. Chat w Dell support to get a quote.

Dell doesn't make a 500W unit for this. You could modify the case and shoehorn in an SFX power supply like the corsair SF600 like another user did and use a Moddiy Adapter.
The other ugly option is to remove the internal power supply and use a standard EPS12V power supply OUTSIDE the case with the wires running in the hole left behind by the removed power supply. Not all units work. EVGA 500B1 was used and worked for a 3650.

Thanks mate. I have noticed this after more research. Seems like a case swap maybe a better option as it will allow a full height gpu and better psu.
Actually works out more cost effective than replacing current PSU as well.
Not 100% on graphics card. Have you got any recommendations. I have read AMD tends to be better at transcoding over nvidia.

Seriously? Maybe need to return this 7060 then and get a tower system from different vendor. I got a bargain on this one. At least the m.2 and ram can be used in simular PC's. Thanks for the information

These part numbers / models should be compatible (fits case) with Optiplex 7060 SFF (and higher/later, incl. Precision SFF, just further they do need two CPU jacks):
2VD0G 360W
5K7J8 500W
99TPH 500W
Y7R0X 500W
4FWF7 460W
HG9XD 460W
92WNC 460W
But really depends on what limits you need on separate 12V rails, therefore it's better to check first if it has enough Amps (12Va{1/2} 12Vb 12Vc etc. , normally it's 18A .. and relevant combination with total) on required lane (since extra Wattage is rather for another rail, not designed to be delivered via the same, it's just another power jack for your AddOn card).
I've got mine via e-bay and it's automatically booked all taxes and duties (China to UK purchase/import) with breakdown on e-bay invoice, didn't have to do or pay anything on top.

Interesting. I used to believe the 360w and 500w Dell psu with two 4 pin cpu connectors would work for 7060 that has only one 4 pin cpu socket. After all most modern aftermarket generic psu do provide 4+4 pin cpu and user can just use one or both 4 pin depending on motherboard. However, this presumption has met some serious doubt now after recent users report of two blink amber No POST error when users tried to use the Dell proprietary 500w in 5060 and 7050. it is still an unresolved issue. Can any user provide a positive proof that the 500w works in 5060/7060/7050?

Upgrading modern Optiplex SFF psu to 460/500w has a number of serious limitations:
1. Dell SFF case cannot physically support high power gpu. only low profile (entry level) gpu can fit the case. in this regard, there may not be a need for 500w psu.
2. Dell proprietary motherboard can not be moved to non Dell tower case
3. Dell 500w/460w psu for 7080/7090/7071 with two 4 pin connectors may not work for older series 7070/7060/7050.

@sam55todd
* Y7R0X 500W Chicony = XPS 8940,
Optiplex 7080 MT/XE
* Optiplex 7070/7060 not compatible
The 460 and 500W units are not available for 7060 7070.
@DELL-Chris M will likely validate that.

It's all good. I have returned the 7060 and going to do my own build that way I get exactly what I want and I can reuse the upgrades I bought plus I get a 500w psu and ability for full height graphics. Most likely Nvidia Geforce 2060
Deff NO plex. no Emby No Kodi. NextPVR is my,choice. Runs client server iptv solution and supports most systems including AppleTV, Google TV windows mac Linux etc one of the few that do.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions was very I formative and appreciated.

As mentioned above those PSUs:
a) fits SFF case
b) has right outputs
The rest depending on model, electronically might need some extra effort though.
I think as per your linked thread solution is either (or combination of those):
1) Changing wiring of MB jack? (although it looks like wire colors are different, not what delivered over those wires)
2) Making sure PSU is not faulty.
Another thing is what PSUs are not supposed to operate without the load, therefore it's advised to emulate one.
Obviously you can't feed MB designed to work with two CPU power rails by PSU with just one if MB has relevant power detection logic (that's why older PSU models might not work, the ones with single 4-pin connector, even splitting single jack into two can fail because MB might have some voltage differential detection logic).
So if you've rearranged pinout correctly and have unused CPU power jack left (second 4-pin yellow/black) then some high Ohm resistor might be required to be safely plugged/connected in there (ensuring it's not overloading, overheating, and needed resistance thresholds are met to make PSU logic think load is connected) for emulating power usage.
All IMO.

Hello, and apologies for the interruption. I'm in the middle of modding my Optiplex 7060 SFF. What type of PSU did you use? SFX? TFX? ATX? Thanks!
