7010 SFF, support the Xeon E3-1240?

I was wondering if the 7010's micro code would recognize a Xeon E3-1240 processor.  Since it appears that the entire line of i7-2xxx CPUs is recognized, I'm hoping the near identical Xeon would as well.  Thank you.

A couple of references:  Google the Sandy Bridge bug and Sandy Bridge Bug Dell Community.

The link will have more info than what you need, but you'll get it.  If screengrabs don't show, sign out, and then they'll show.  I have to do that in Android.

Screengrabs are from Wikipedia.

Yes it will. I had a i5-13570 and replaced it with an Xeon E3-1240v2 in my 7010DT. That's what is in right now as I respond to this question for anyone in the future who may need to know. You will need a dedicated GPU though (The DT & SFF use a low power graphic card, I got both 7010's and the same card in both) and make sure it is enabled in the BIOS before install as there is no integrated graphic chip on the Xeon 1155 CPU's. To be safe update your BIOS first.

I want to replace my i5-3470 CPU with a Xeon E3 1240 (3.4GHz, 4C/8T).  Will it work?

Dell cannot know this because we never tested a Xeon CPU in this 2012 model. You are just going to have to test one. The best validated CPU was;

D7RF6, JJ8D9 = Intel i7-3770 Ivy Bridge, 3.40GHz, 8MB, FSB 1333MHz, 77w

Not all cougar point Chipsets are affected.

In the first month of Cougar Point's release, January 2011, Intel posted a press release stating a design error had been discovered.
Specifically, a transistor in the 3 Gbit/s PLL clocking tree was receiving too high voltage.
The projected result was a 5–15% failure rate within three years of 3 Gbit/s SATA ports.

Intel has stopped production on its 6 Series Chipset hardware, and is expected to begin shipping an updated version of the 6-Series chipset in late February, with full-volume production reached again by April. Intel is not, however, officially recalling all affected Sandy Bridge products.

 Dell products that were affected. "Dell and Intel are in communication regarding the design issue in the recently released Intel 6 Series (Sandy Bridge) support chip, code-name Cougar Point," the company said. "This affects four currently-available Dell products, the XPS 8300, the Vostro 460, the Alienware M17x R.3 and the Alienware Aurora R.3, as well as several other planned products including XPS 17 with 3D. We're committed to addressing this with customers who have already purchased one of the four products and will provide further details on this as it becomes available."

Cougar Point is the codename of a PCH in Intel 6 Series chipsets for mobile,
desktop, and workstation / server platforms.
It is most closely associated with Sandy Bridge processors.

This has the following variations:

    * BD82C202 (PCH C202) Server

    * BD82C206 (PCH C206) Workstation / Server
