Dell Optiplex 790 DT Recommended GPU and/or PSU

Hello,

I am currently looking for a compatibe Dell Optiplex 790 Desktop compatible graphics card. My specs are: Intel Core I5-2400 CPU @ 3.10Ghz, with a 250W PSU. Do you guys know any cheap and compatible graphics cards, and should I upgrade my PSU?

best gpu matching i5-2400 is gtx 950. Intel Core i5-2400 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce only 1.22% of bottleneck. recommended system power is 350W. * Recommendation is made based on PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz processor. Pre-built system may require less power depending on system configuration.

used GTX 950 on sale on eBay. You can also get GTX 1050 that matches i5-2400.

Intel Core i5-2400 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce only 4.67% of bottleneck.

bear in mind for Optiplex DT (Desktop) you can only use low profile gpu (only MT can take full height gpu). The DT case can only take short gpu as shown in pic. It can be double slot in width. 790 DT

you should install gpu in the top/blue PCIe slot only (x16 slot).

There's 2 models of the GTX 950, one rated at 75w and one rated at 95w. Power consumption looks to be too high with certain games, way too high for a 250 watt PSU. EDIT: I no longer stand behind this statement - The only way you could upgrade the PSU in a 790 DT is top have it sit outside the case - less than desirable.

I believe the Dell Vostro 400w TFX PSU will work in a 790 DT. There may also be a 435 watter that fits. However, it's difficult to pull up images that show me psu and it's connectors.

There is a YouTube video of a GTX 1050 ti going in a 790 SFF. Also, 7010 DT + GTX 1050 ti + YouTube

One easy and safe bet for the 790 DT is a GT 1030. It's 30w and comes quite regularly recommended by one of our Rockstars in this forum for various Optiplex's.

DT has more room inside the case than SFF. both take low profile card only.

I believe you're still talking about your GT 1030 low profile.  It'll fit once you get the short bracket for it. Did you see the video xps630 linked?

Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 is what I use in my Dell Optiplex 790 MT. with a 450w EVGA power supply unit. original motherboard. still in use. runs great
