Dell monitor stuck in power save mode

I have a stock Dell OptiPlex 9010 MT connected to a Dell 1901FP monitor that I purchased together used. Before now the computer and monitor had been connected to via VGA cable with no issues. Recently one of the pins on the VGA cable was bent when moving to a new desk, and I took the opportunity to upgrade to a digital cable. I purchased a DisplayPort to DVI adapter, and connected to the monitor via DVI cable. When I plugged everything in to test, it worked fine, with the monitor displaying normally, but after I unplugged the cables and re-routed them around the back of the desk for final installation it no longer works. The monitor is stuck in "Power Saving Mode", and says to move mouse or keyboard to exit power saving mode, but this doesn't work. When viewing the 9010 via remote connection, Windows 10 Advanced Display Settings says that "Display 1: Dell 1901FP is connected to Intel HD Graphics 4000" and that, basically, as far as it knows everything is fine. I have tried everything from restarting both the monitor and computer, updating drivers, plugging and unplugging cables, trying both DisplayPort ports, etc., but I find it strange because everything worked fine before I re-routed the cables. I have read in other forums that the 1901FP monitor had issues with power saving mode over DVI input but as far as I know there wasn't a concrete solution. Any help would be appreciated.

My Dell Optiplex 790 has developed the same problem.  I have a 1707 monitor and  when you power the monitor off and on, the screen flashes with he desktop, then goes into powersave mode.  On another discussion board, they said, unplug the memory cards, rub the contacts with rubber bands, return the memory sticks, reboot.  Some found that to help...not me.  Any suggestions would help.

You may also use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to chat with a Dell technician right away.

My Dell 2012Ht monitor is connected to 755 MT via VGA.  No issues.  When I connected it via DVI, absolutely no go.  I manually selected DVI input in the menu.

GPU is a Radeon HD4350.  Nothing to brag about, but it has 3 connections - VGA, HDMI, & DVI.

DVI connection on the GPU is 24+5 pin.  Monitor has 24+1 pin.  I wondered if it was the difference between the two.  I used a DVI 24+1 pin cable to connect.

Monitors DO NOT get stuck in power save mode.

That message comes from the monitor and it means the signal is set to resolution higher than the monitor supports OR there is no video signal whatsoever.

You should press F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12   F2 F12

And it should get into BIOS.  If it doesn't then your PC has hardware issue.

If it Works from there you have corrupted windows.

If monitors do not get stuck in power-saving mode, then please tell me how the monitor would display it even if the computer is not switched on.

I keep getting emails saying - Hello, We haven't received the Service tag or the Express Service Code yet. Can you share any of them in text format so that I can help you with your query?

I have no idea what this means. I have a Dell monitor which has suddenly decided to not work.

The emails are "no reply",

Hi @Ebberman,

Did the emails come from @DELL-Cares?  <---Tap the link.  Scroll down to "Contact."  You should then be able to send them a private message (PM).

As for your monitor inquiry, the only way I know how to answer that is if I disconnect my monitor from PC (with PC off of course), it then shows a box looking for a connection, whether it be VGA, DVI, etc.

Having 100 tabs open shouldn't affect VGA.  You might know that already.

If you're ordering a cheap PC, it sounds like the RAM is maxed (meaning PC has the max RAM it can take).

A couple of tips:  Make sure PC has at least 8GB RAM for Win10.  4GB will slow it down some.  Consider more RAM depending on what's in all those open tabs.

The emails came from Dell Community.

I tried a different monitor and VGA lead. No change. The computer itself seems to be the problem. The underlying problem is my autistic daughter who breaks computers by having over 100 tabs running on the browser. The workspace (memory, ram - as you wish) becomes clogged and the computer refuses to run. I'll order a cheap computer. Thank you for your time.
