Hello,

i have a Dell Optiplex 780 sff.

i brought it home (from school) and when i plugged it in to the LAN cable it didnt work.

it says the lan cable is not connected at all times even through it is.

i did do a dissasembely before testing the internet connection,

could a missing cable be causing this?

thanks in advance

What exactly did you disassemble? The LAN connection is actually part of the motherboard so no cable is required internally. Are you sure that the LAN cable you are connecting to the router is good? Are you connecting to the correct port on the router, generally one of the blue ports.

I took apart the machine and put in a GTX 1050, i also took everything out and painted the case. i am pretty sure that the lan cable is good but i will try connecting it straight to the router tomorrow. I am nearly 100% sure it was the right port.

thanks for the reply

Cables that are hand made that do not use pairs on connections 1 2 3 6 or are CAT3 instead of CAT5 or CAT6 will not connect due to nway negotiation problems.  Going directly to the router will not fix a bad cable.

The 780 works fine with windows 8 or 10 without needing to download drivers.

Stock power supply on any size 780 does not support 1050 or any 75W card.

Why does a 755 MT support 75w card with 305w PSU but not the 780 MT with same PSU?  Lower amps on the 12v rail?
