Optiplex 5090 SFF, upgrade storage?

I am currently using a 3.5 HDD (7200rpm) without an SSD, and I am interested in upgrading to an NVMe SSD. I noticed that there is an M.2 SSD port near the CPU fan, but it has a non-active label near it and no socket to plugin in. I am facing an issue with Windows updates, which take hours to complete and affect my work. The updates run in the background and take up 100% of disk usage, making it difficult to work. Major updates like Windows 22H took over a day (32 hours to be exact) to update and use my device. I am considering upgrading to an NVMe SSD because it has more write/read speed than a SATA SSD. When I normally reboot my device, it takes 30 minutes to free up 100% disk usage, just to use my system. After this, the system works fine. This issue is causing me a lot of stress, and I am wondering what I should do? I did check the specs sheet. As per this i dont see any option, if i go the dell service, will they add it i mean M.2 SOCKET? How does this work?

Chassis intrusion is entirely different feature.  It's triggered by a switch if the side panel was removed while the machine was on.  Not quite understand the relation to upgrading hard drive or ssd.

You plan to use M.2 nvme drive, there will be no wiring or cable involve.  SATA operation mode must properly set to AHCI in BIOS settings.

Do i need to change any other configuration in bios settings?

No i was wondering if there is some kind of functionality that prevents me to use my system in case i changed any existing configuration or hardware in dell pc.

I checked my bios settings and found ACHI not enabled. Its is set as RAID in storage. Do i need to change it before installing new windows or after installing it.

Do i need to worry about any other configurations?

As mentioned, you must enable AHCI in BIOS settings in order to see the new NVMe drive.  No other change is needed.  You can follow this process below to change your current boot mode to AHCI, else the current drive will not boot.

  1. Run cmd as elevated administrator. 

  2. Type this command to command prompt to start Windows in Safe Mode the next time you reboot:

    bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
    
  3. Restart the computer and immediately hit F2 to enter BIOS settings.

  4. Change the SATA operation mode from RAID to AHCI.

  5. Save changes and exit Setup and Windows will automatically boot to Safe Mode.

  6. Run cmd as elevated administrator again

  7. Type this command, which will start Windows in Normal Mode the next time you reboot:

    bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot
    
  8. Reboot and Windows will automatically start with AHCI drivers enabled.

wait I plan to install new windows via flash drive.
When do I need to run these commands?
From my understanding.
(Computer switched off)
1. Change boot to ACHL and save changes and exit (automatic reboot)
2. Then shut down the pc after logged in and disconnect it from powersource.
3.  Then add the nvme ssd to its slot.
4.  Insert the flash drive containing windows 11
5.  Power On Pc and press F8 and change boot to flash drive
6. Complete the installation of windows 11 in the nvme drive & Format the HDD
7. Restart & remove the flash drive

A)When should i need to run the above mentioned bcdedit  commands?

B) Can i format my Hdd later?

The process is for changing SATA mode with current boot drive.  It allows AHCI driver to be installed to existing operating system.

For a new installation, you just need to change SATA mode to AHCI right before booting the Windows installation USB drive.
