Message when i inserted a graphics card in my Dell OptiPlex GX280
Hi guys! When i inserted a graphics card in my Dell OptiPlex GX280, It showed a "Alert! PCI Express card is operating in 1x mode", how do i make this message disappear?

Never mind, When i reseated the VGA cable, the "Alert! PCI Express card is operating in 1x mode" message got disappeared.

a very old PC, from 2004, at 16 years old why are you using such and old PC ?

my 2nd guess is you run XP, the virus magnet?
and did not remove the GPU driver first in XP?. and not hot swap the card.

great sounds like the card finally seated 100% to me.
what I do with cards is make the gold fingers on card go out of site buried in the slot,, not wanting to risk a canted card and shorting pins, shorts are never good idea.
and with zero power, full all power removed, AC cord not connected..

GX280 and Other models are NOT COMPATIBLE with PCI-E 1.0 cards.
You must use PCI-E 2.X card that is NON UEFI.
This is also why newer PCI-E 2.X cards do not work in models like precision 490, 690 etc.
There are power and line code problems between PCI-E 1.X and 2.X and 3.x
Old cards are not forward compatible and new cards are not backwards compatible to 1.X
PHY Interface for PCI Express, SATA, and USB 3 are incompatible with older 1.X cards.
