Optiplex 3010 motherboard upgrade

Hello everybody, Merry Christmas. So I was wondering, can I put a new b450m motherboard, ryzen 5 3600 cpu and some of the better gtx cards in my Dell Optiplex 3010 case because I've had it for a while and I want to build a sleeper in this case so I was wondering can I do it, like swap the motherboard and all that stuff so I can have a faster and better pc more build like for a workstation/gaming.

Dell front panel and other pinouts are not published or documented. So while its possible that you could get it in the case its not worth the considerable effort to do so.  There is no support from dell for this.

Assuming you have Dell 3010 MT case that you want to turn into sleeper PC, most important is to map out Dell power switch (5 pin) pin out.  Connect pwr sw+/- to new motherboard front panel header.  MT takes micro ATX board only. MT case accepts new IO shield. Finally connect Dell front panel usb and audio cables to new motherboard headers.  PS. Change Dell chassis fan (proprietary connector) to standard 3 pin fan.

Dell probably uses the same 5 pin out for power switch across multiple optiplex models. User reported pinout is a good guide to start from.  Get DuPont adapter wires (male to female) to connect Dell power sw cable and new motherboard FP pwr sw+/- header.

  • If you want to build a better pc, used empty cases are not that expensive.
