Optiplex 3060 Micro - Trying to get Oracle Solaris up and running but require PCH SPI Controller driver

Hi Guys,

I've managed to get Solaris installed and booting on my machine

but I'm missing a crucial driver.

I get the following error massage when trying to install the system:

PCIEX-8000-8R with severity as Major. It then suggests that I visit

the following website: https://support.oracle.com/msg/PCIEX-8000-8R

but you need a support contract,

However, when I check under the Install Driver option it suggests that

I require the following driver update:

Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH SPI Controller

in the following formats: SVR4 package or P5i driver file.

Without this driver it looks like Solaris cannot operate the

hardware correctly like powering down the system.

I'm trying to get Solaris up and running to get Oracle Database

operational. Oracle Linux proved to be too problematic with the

resource limit setting clashing with new and legacy resource

managers and Oracle Database refusing to install. Hence, Solaris.

If anyone has any ideas, much appreciated. Thanks.

Solaris is Sun Micro Systems and the Error you are getting is because your hardware is not SUN SPARC Processor.

Oracle bought sun and all of their hardware/software/etc.

DELL Does not support solaris or sun sparc.  You do not have sun SPARC T5-8 host and therefore you will not be running solaris.

Use the message ID to obtain more information about this type of fault.

  • Obtain the message ID from console output.

Sun Netra X4270 M3 Server

https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/netra-systems/documentation/o12-025-netra4270m3-arch-1575991.pdf

Is the Intel based hardware

Sun or Oracle DOES NOT and WILL NOT support solaris on Dell OPTIPLEX desktops.

There is no such "driver" from Dell nor oracle and there never will be.

I have both kinds of servers and oracle premier support with a Customer Support Identifier (CSI) number for both Sparc and Intel based hardware.

There is never going to be support or drivers for DELL DESKTOP hardware for oracle 11 solaris.

There is support for Solaris and Sun/Oracle servers.

There is no support whatsoever for DELL Optiplex desktops or Dell Poweredge servers and solaris.

Thanks sdeepstep!

I'm using the X64 AMD/Intel version of Solaris.

It's up and running but the system OS dosen't seem

to have control over some of the hardware functionality

like shut-down. I was hoping that the above mentioned

driver would solve this problem.
