Optiplex 7480 AIO Bios update Error. Error: Unable to find OS Protocol Access Interface.
Hello.
I am no rookie, have had at least 100 different Optiplex computers in the past 3 years and have updated on them at least 300 times the BIOS.
I am now sitting in front of my 7480 AIO, which has a broken screen, so I can not enter the BIOS setup from the F2 or F12 menu ( I could enter, just wouldn't see anything due to the broken screen).
Am using the PC through 2 external monitors.
So I have the only choice to update the BIOS within Windows 11 or wait weeks until the new BIOS will be included in the Windows Update options.
I wish to update it now and not wait, because this BIOS version is a critical update.
I don't have McAfee and I deactivated the current antivirus product to no avail. Have no Bitlocker either.
However I still got this error (see title or the attached photo). I know other users had the same problem too, but they got an answer sort of "leave it alone if the PC runs fine" and their problem has not been resolved yet.
I wonder if any one has any good ideas for me this time?

The BIOS Update was available today through Windows Update.
Downloaded it, installed it restarted it, "nothing happened" for some minutes and then the machine rebooted into Windows again and the new BIOS is on the machine.
Of course "nothing happened" is not true, the BIOS Update happened, just couldn't see it due to the broken built in screen.
When I try to install the BIOS Update (again) using the normal exe file it shows the correct version within the software, but the same: Error: Unable to find OS Protocol Access Interface.
So next time with the next BIOS Update will be the same thing, hence the problem is still unresolved.

Searching on internet regarding this error. Quite rare and only reported by 3 users, two having optiplex 7780, one 7480 which is you. Seems the two models share bios update.exe: OptiPlex_7780_7480_1.6.3.exe
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/optiplex-7780-aio/drivers
if no other user of other desktop model or older bios version of 7780/7480 has encountered this error before, does it not seem that it is a bug in this particular bios.exe version? Hopefully it is one time bug that does not propagate to next version. I would not scratch my head understanding why Dell bios team fumbled on this one.

I don't have this PC for long. But this error also appeared with the previous BIOS, so not just with the actual one.

7480/7780 bios bug is propagating as you suspected. Send the mod a PM and ask him to forward notification to bios team. Seems limited to this model.

Nah, I won't bother them.
I guess I will sell this PC sooner than they could react, besides the new BIOS was very quickly available through Windows Update this time.

It seems the problem was somewhere within Windows.
The Windows 11 22h2 update fixed this problem.
I don't now if the update or the fact that by this update windows gets a de facto new install, but it's OK now.
Now I can update the BIOS without any problem.

It's another one of those strange driver bugs. It can happen with a custom image. Uninstall these two System devices in Device Manager and reboot and they'll come back, and the bios update will work. It also fixes Dell Command | Configure ("Couldn't get WMI-ACPI Buffer Size!!") and the DellBIOSProvider powershell module ("A drive with the name 'DellSmbios' does not exist.").
"Microsoft System Management BIOS Driver"
"Microsoft Windows Management Interface for ACPI" (several)

Before updating the BIOS, unlock the bitlock of the C drive partition.
How to unlock bitlocker:
please open Powershell with administrator and type the command: Disable-BitLocker -MountPoint "c:"
when not unlocked:
when unlocked:
Good luck.

@jsiii2010 It was solved on Optiplex 5490 AIO Model 0x0A48, Bios Ver 1.28.0 and worked fine in my environment. I appreciate @jsiii2010 for solving this issue.
