Hi @nilll,

You may refer to this regarding "Best Low Power Graphics Card without External Power Connector in 2019". All GPUs recommended in the article do not require extra power connector and able to fit into 790 MT without replacing your existing PSU. Choose one accordingly to your budget.

Power is not the issue all i need is a card that can fit in 790 and will not bottleneck with i7-2600. Most suitable gpu?

If it helps - Optiplex 790 Tech Guide.pdf

You also have the reference from bmcowboy.

I don't know that the answer comes down to just one.  If you're not happy with your current GPU, computer builds and components can be tested, or visualized, at userbenchmark.com.

Stock  290W power is not suitable for a better card.

With an EVGA Super Nova B1 750 power supply GTX1050TI is fine.

Hey dudes,

Attention to what the questioner emphasized:

  • Want a card that can give its best performance without bottlenecking
  • Power is not the issue (alright that's what he/she claimed no matter right or wrong)
  • Can fit in 790

By all mentioned above, I'm actually planned to recommend a RTX 2080 Ti or even a GTX Titan XP for him/her! XD

(CAUTION! Don't take it seriously.)

I think you meant "Don't take it too seriously."

Already mentioned in my 1st reply that all GPUs described in this article able to fit into 790 MT, which including RX 550 and RX 560. I'm afraid you didn't read it actually.

Most 500W power supplies are not as good as a Dell 525W unit because they do NOT provide 150W combined power on the 3.3v/5v rails at 80 percent efficiency.

This is also why ATX 12v power supplies are not acceptable.  EPS 12v units that are at least version 2.9 and at least 750W provide this.

That is why even the dell 460W unit provides more power on those rails.

The PCI-E slot gets 75W from those rails.

When the Power supply only provides 90 to 130W combined on the rails the unit does not work properly.

This is the reason why the EVGA 750B1 is fine but the BQ, B2, G2 versions from the same vendor are not.

This solution probably won't go anywhere, but if the 500W PSU has a 6 pin connector, I would put an EVGA GTX 1060 (Single fan) inside that PC. It's low cost paired with decent performance makes this a favorited upgrade for me. I did it on one of my Optiplex 790s and it fits just fine. The Core i7-2600 shouldn't bottleneck it too badly, and that 500W PSU is more than enough to supply power to the graphics card and CPU. Update the BIOS to the latest version just to be safe.
