Optiplex 9010 bootup keeps stopping at page for choosing boot options

Until recently, boot up on my Optiplex 9010 was normal and always proceeded uninterrupted to the WinXP desktop.  But for the last month each boot stops at a page that wants me to choose from various boot options, which include the two hard drives.  I noticed that the boot mode was set to Legacy, and Secure Boot is OFF, but don't know what that means.

I'm not sure how this came about, but could someone tell me how to reset the computer back to the unimpeded boot that I used to have.

Try running msinfo32.exe to see if you can change boot options back to normal.

Very unsafe to still be running XP in 2022.

I've been tying to upload a photo, but it's not taking.  I'll try again later.

running msinfo32 opens up the System Information window.  There is nothing obvious there that points to a way to change my boot options back to normal.  Were you referring to a specific section?

After reading about some horror stories from people who switched from Legacy to Secure boot mode, I should probably stay in Legacy mode.  But is there a way to set the default boot choice (the primary hard drive) so it won't have to stop at this screen each time I boot up.

Hi

Which of the 2 HDD's has the Boot Loader, which has XP installed, on it.

Perhaps in the BIOS you can arrange for that to be at the top of the list?

It would be prudent to run a diagnostic on the disks, in case one is failing prematurely.

Also I would check/replace any CMOS battery to ensure the BIOS settings are saved.

@jbclem

You're right about staying in Legacy mode for XP.  If modes are changed, it won't boot from XP boot drive.

@ann_droid is right also -Try replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery  if it's 5+ years old.  A bad battery can affect booting.  Please try it and let us know how it goes.

Also, go into F2 BIOS and uncheck any drives you don't want it to boot from and see if that helps.
