Realtek sound keeps stopping

Hi, the Realtek sound keeps stopping on my Optiplex 7010 sff.

I have tried the Support Assist but it only highlights an outdated Bios.(which fails to install)

Current driver is 6.0.1.6105.a05.

Sometimes if I run the sound trouble shooter it fixes it, but then when I go to use it again it's gone.

I got fed up trying to fix it, so as a workaround I'm using an audio extractor on the HDMI output of the graphics card and using Nvidia HD sound

Works great.

Check the manual here-- Dell OptiPlex 9010/7010 Small Form Factor Owner's Manual

Go to Dell Downloads and Drivers to see what is needed for the 10 year old model.

Thanks for the advice.

The sound seems to be fixed for now, but I'll wait and see.

Regarding the Bios update, Dell says I need A29 (I have A09)

I have tried installing as an administrator both A29 and A12 (the next step up from A09) but the installer just goes to the yes or no install option and then goes back to desktop and does nothing.

I have suspended Bit locker and removed USB drives.

Not sure if you tried downloading from here?  https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/optiplex-7010/drivers

Good to hear the sound is working.  Not sure what you meant by "removed USB drives."  Disabled in Device Manager?  You should still be able to use your USB ports.  May be re-enable?  Or did you have items plugged into USB slots that you removed?

If you had to disable USB ports for sound to work, I think it should only be temporary.

Looks like this is the latest sound driver from 2015:  6.0.1.6070, A00

May be have Dell Command Update to thru your PC?

Hi, when I woke my PC 3 or 4 hours sleep the audio was gone again. So the problem appears to be caused when it sleeps.

Checked the Windows Audio service and its running.
