Replacement of cpu

I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my i3 cpu of my optiplex 790 desktop to an i5 cpu? Would that work, it's an lga socket 1155

It should work, if you use the same generation as the current i3. Look at the dell manuals to see what i5 parts were used. Probably something like i5 2400
