I read a post in which you spoke about DD/NMDA/RMAN/FRA...

My current situation is the following:

  • Oracle 11.2 databases with RMAN backups to nfs disks
  • No FRA in use for backups
  • non-production databases duplicated from production DB without target, without catalog (=> using "backup location")

The goal:

Since EMC is in use in the house, our EMC administrator would to skip the use of a "staging area" for RMAN backups and write directly to the "DataDomain". I read some EMC notes but it stays quite unclear how to practically implement the thing. There are very few post on the net as well. Do you have some practical examples to provide for the Oracle side (FRA settings, RMAN channel, ...)?

One of the requirement I also have is that I must be able to restore/duplicate my backups using the "backup location" RMAN argument, which requires that the RMAN backup files must be "presented" like a disk (and not a tape = SBT_TAPE).
