Can´t install Windows Server 2003 OS on my poweredge 2950.

Ok, so I had to format my RAID1 hardrive (same brand, size, and model) because of a virus, where I had Windows Server 2003 R2, using my original cd Dell Openmanage Server Assistant 5.1.

I want to reinstall Windows Server 2003 like I did last time, but it wont let me. It says Insert "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD", which I do. The cd rom drive green light stays on for like 2 minutes, then it shuts off, and the message still displays. I don´t know what to do from here. Everything I have it´s original. I know that cd works because I put it in another computer and the autoplay shows up, and the cdroom reads just fine.

What could be causing this problem?

I am in desperate help

Provided there is nothing actually wrong with your CD drive, you could either try downloading/using the latest version of the installation utility or install directly from the 2003 CD.  If you install directly from the installation CD, then you will need to provide the RAID drivers at F6 (or use http://nLiteOS.com to integrate it), but that might get you around the "hand-off" between SBUU/ISM and the 2003 media.

Drivers for SAS 5/iR and SAS 6/iR:

Drivers for PERC 5/i and PERC 6/i:

Link to latest Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) - requires your 2003 CD to have Service Pack 2:

Also, if installing directly from the 2003 CD, you must configure RAID (in CTRL-R or CTRL-C) before attempting to boot to the 2003 CD to install.  It would be wise to delete and reconfigure anyway.

Most likely, either your download was corrupt or the "burn" to CD was corrupt.

it didnt work.

I burned the big file, try to boot with cd room and the following messages shows up.

"Loading PBR For Descriptor 2 ... Done!

NTLDR is missing

press Any key to restart"

I tested the DVD Rom on my computer and it booted automatically, why not in the Poweredge? I checked and it´s also a DVD drive.

You undoubtedly got a "not supported" message booting SBUU on a non-Poweredge computer - but that might be preferable to your media message.  Does the drive on your 2950 boot other known-good CD's and DVD's?  And do you have any non-Dell hardware installed (controllers, expansion cards, etc.)?

My DVD drive it used to boot from my windows 2003 Cd, now it only boots with the Dell Cd Server Assistant that came with it like 6 years ago. The rest of the cds says that:

"No boot device available

Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

I am going to try with an external DVD Drive and see what happens, first I am going to have to buy it.

Is it possible that you are using a DVD in a CD drive ?
