Dell Poweredge 2800 black screen
Good afternoon to all forum members
I'm writing because I want to help my daughters school in getting up there old server. They don't have enough money to buy a new server so I decided to help them because they don't have any goverment funds to fix the issue.
The problem here is the system got hit by a strong lighting and the battery backup was not able to withstand the lighting. The curious thing here is i went to check the server and it powers on but I have a black screen, no video.
Its a dell Poweredge 2800.
1) I'm planning on swapping out and checking memories
2) Maybe install a seperate video card in case the video output was faulty
3) Bring the server to minimum post requirements
4) Re-setting BIOS
Any other suggestions form any experienced powerdedge 2800 users?
Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated.Thanks in advance!

Those are all good steps. If the server has redundant power supply units I would suggest trying each PSU in each slot one at a time.
Are you getting any kind of beep codes, LED errors, or LCD errors that would indicate a problem source? Also, are the HDDs or fans spinning up? The first thing I would try to determine is if this is a no video or no POST issue. Hooking a keyboard up to the server would also help to determine if it is a no video or no post issue. If you are able to turn caps/num/scroll lock on/off then it is likely POSTing or coming close to POSTing. If you have a DRAC installed then I would check to see if it is detected by the router/switch and acquiring an IP address.

Also be sure, if all else fails, to reseat the processors ... remove proc1 and put proc2 in slot 1, swap if necessary. This is the most common fix for no-video on 8G systems.
