How to upgrade ram on Poweredge T410
Hi, i've got a poweredge T410 and i'm confused on how to upgrade the ram. it came with 2 x cpus and 16gb ram from new (8 x 2gb 2Rx8 PC3 10600E). so all eight slots are populated with ram. i've read loads of articles and still find it a bit confusing. I've got 2 new 8gb ram modules (8gb 2Rx8 PC3 12800R) which I would like to add but this doesn't seem to work in any of the slots as a pair. i've tried it in A2+B2, A3+B3, A4+B4 and A1+B1) and each time the system complains about a bad memory configuration and wont boot. please can someone advise on whether I can add these two ram modules to my current config and how? or whether I need to buy another two and add four to make it work? i've updated the bios too.

Hi,
You will need to add two more DIMMs. Right now the channels don’t match. With eight DIMMs each processor would have two channels so if you are only adding 1GB per processor you have a channel with 10GB and a channel with 4GB.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but thats one of the documents that i read when tying to figure out what to do. unfortunately it's not very clear how i can upgrade my system. i currently have eight 2gb dimms installed in my system so all my slots are full. and i want to upgrade the ram by adding new 8gb dimms. can you tell me how many 8gb dimms i need to buy and which slots they need to go in? thanks.

You need 4 total or more.
Slots 1 and 4 on each processor are 1 channel and slots 2 and 3 are each their own channel. Since the channels need to match you would need 8GB dimms in every populated channel. So it depends on what the total ram you need is. You can mix DIMM sizes if channel 1 is the only populated channel.
You could get 20GB
A1 B1 8GB
A4 B4 2GB
All other slots empty.
If you need more memory than that you could put 8GB in A1,B1,A2,B2

I am in a similar situation with 16GB. My setup however seems to be 4 Memory modules:
4 x DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4G, 1333, 2RX4X72, 8, 240, REGULATORY
So in this scenario if I understand correctly, I can leave the current setup as is, and fill the rest of the slots with the same capacity memory modules. Right?
I was hoping to go either 32 or more. I assume I can get the same part (NN876) or I would like to find the compatible part number for 8GB modules. Can you please advice on that part?
