Poweredge T420 unable to install OS
Hi,
We have just bought a t420, but whenever we go to install Server 2008 on it, it bluescreens shortly after the windows splash screen,so we never get as far as installation.
The error is a stop error of 0x0000007E and PSHED.dll.
Has anyone else come across this before and solved it?

The first thing I would check is the version of 2008. The T420 requires 2008 R2 SP1, is that the version you're working with? I would also make sure that the BIOS and drac are current as well. You can find the updates here -

You can update as well as install the OS via the Lifecycle Controller (F10) on startup.

Jon,
The issue might be being caused by a dimm issue as well. What I would suggest is power down and then remove the dimms from the server, except for slot A1 (if single proc) or a1 and B1 (if dual procs). Then attempt the install again and let me know the results. If the install completes then you may want to test your dimms.

After removing all the dimms then reseating them all, it now boots. Thank you for help.

Yes it 2008 r2 sp1, bios and drac are both up to date, that was my first thought as well. Ran the lifecycle controller to make sure everything was up to date. First time I've come across this problem before, has me baffled at the moment.
